The Silence

Each time we met my heart would yearn,

For words unspoken, for bridges burned.
Eyes would meet yet lips stayed still
Bound by silence against my will.
A thousand thoughts a million sighs
Lost in the space between our eyes
I wished to speak, to break the chain
But fear held tight, and words remained
And when you turned to walk away
I called your name a whisper, astray
But perhaps my voice dissolved in the air
Or you heard yet drifted,
like you were never there
